Because of the electronic nature of baby monitors it can often be a confusing purchase. At Moms To Be… and More we have made every effort to carry only the best of the best to take the confusion out of this process.

Choosing an audio monitor which carries a guarantee of “zero interference” is always the preferred route; however there are a number of things to look for when you are checking out audio monitors. Look for monitors that run on digital DECT technology rather than 900MHz or 2.4GHz transmission. The superior quality of digital DECT ensures that will not interfere with the other wireless devices in your house like wireless home networks or cordless phones because it runs on a completely different frequency (unlike 900MHz and 2.4GHz transmission). For those in condos and with close-by neighbors it also offers more privacy as the parent and baby units are encoded to each other  and will silently switch between channels as soon as they detect something else. This means that you will not hear your neighbor’s cordless phone when you want to hear your baby, and your neighbor will not be able to hear your baby on their monitor or phone.  The monitor by Philips is a good one to check out as it offers the ultimate in audio baby monitors. All of their products carry a “guaranteed zero interference” stamp right on their box. Don’t be fooled by other monitors claiming they are “digital”, Philips offers 100% true digital DECT transmission that silently switches between 60 different channels as soon as it detects something else on the same channel.  There are absolutely no worries of neighbours eavesdropping or constant static with these monitors. Other features are a rechargeable wireless parent unit, night light on the baby unit, silent mode, voice activated transmission with adjustable sensitivity, and a walkie-talkie function that allows you to speak to baby.


Video monitors can also be a great choice. We offer a couple of different brands, such as Summer, which offer colour by day and black and white at night which allows you to receive a clear picture of your baby at all times. There are a few things to keep in mind when you are choosing your video monitor as well. Think about what is more important to you: having a larger screen, or having a smaller portable parent unit to take around the house with you?





For parents of preemies or babies with respiratory problems choosing something like the Angelcare sound and movement monitor can help ease a lot of anxieties. Their unique system incorporates a movement sensor pad for use in the crib which will alert parents if baby does not make any movement for a set number of seconds. The sensitivity of the pad can be adjusted or turned off, so that as baby grows you can utilize your monitor as audio only. The parent unit is 900MHz wireless and has a line of sight range of 250 meters from the baby unit, giving parents maximum mobility in their home. Other features of the system are temperature readout on the parent unit, continuous or voice activated transmission, colour LCD screen, and a night light on the baby unit. Parents of multiples will need one unit per baby in order for the sensor pad to work correctly. This gives you that extra bit of security that your baby is sleeping safe and sound.
